I have to tell you, our family hasn't stopped talking about this weekend!
Ken and I were so touched. We didn't know what to expect, and were just amazed at how friendly and positive so many of these people were. Several of them shared laughs with us and with my children. My son bonded with one as they realized they shared the same name!
I told my husband that a gentleman came up to me at the last stop that only spoke Spanish. I rarely speak Spanish, but I whipped it out for him! Hope I said everything right...
I bought a handful of large duffle bags (not too strong, unfortunately) that I gave out, those went over well. We need more bags/backpacks. Need larger clothes, and definitely need to put together "female" kits. This was suggested by my teenage daughter as soon as she saw the first woman. I didn't even think about that.
We already decided to get all the kits ready to go and identified male or female. My husband is ready to clear out his closet seeing that we ran in to SEVERAL big boys! One encounter I think was caught on tape. I would LOVE to see that, as we got a big laugh out of that all the way home!
One of my daughters found it difficult to talk to people, but when she saw how touched they were by her homemade Valentine's cards, she just grinned from ear to ear.
They are already making their own suggestions for next year and how they can drum up donations from classmates!
I also have other co-workers that would like to be involved.
I can't tell you how blessed we feel to be apart of this.
Thank you Kylie!
